Each year, schools are allotted to audition 8 students, one per voice part, to earn a spot in the WV All-state Choir- a sect of the WV Music Educator's Association. The panel of judges will accept students that are well-prepared to participate in the conference in early March. Students will sing with a choir made up of students from all over the state, under the direction of a guest clinician and composer. The conclusion of the conference is a large concert at the Civic Center in Charleston.
For students to participate, they must have satisfactory grades in all classes and written permission to be excused for a Thursday and Friday of classes.

The most rigorous audition-based ensemble is for the WV All-State Chamber Choir through the American Choral Director's Association. At this audition, they must prepare literature, sing major and minor scales, and sight-read rhythms and a melody. This process narrows down the ensemble to 8 students per voice part from across the state. This ensemble performs along side a non-auditioned Jr. High Honor Choir of 6th-9th Graders.
